Geology Field Trip

Earth Science Field Trip
Edelman Fossil Park and Museum

Saturday, November 1, 2025
9:45 AM to 6:00 PM

Join Professors Shruti Philips, Geoffrey Fouad, and Randye Rutberg as we visit a globally important fossil site, explore the asteroid impact that ended the dinosaurs 66 million years ago, observe full-scale reconstructions of dinosaurs, and sea creatures that roamed the region, and participate in a paleontological excavation and dig for real fossils from the Cretaceous. You'll have the chance to keep up to three fossils from your dig, while paleontologists continue their groundbreaking research on-site.

This trip is free and open to undergraduate Hunter College Geography and Environmental Studies majors and students enrolled in departmental courses (i.e., GEOG, GEOL, GTECH, PGEOG), and students must submit a complete Student Waiver Form.

What to bring: packed lunch, water, comfortable clothing and sturdy, closed-toed footwear - rubber boots are highly recommended for muddy or wet conditions

Meeting location: Bus pick up and drop off at 68th Street and Lexington Ave

To reserve your seat on the bus, do the following by October 16th: Fill out the Student Waiver Form available from the main office of the Department of Geography and Environmental Science (Room 1006 Hunter North) and leave in Professor Philips' mailbox.
