Chair's Column: August 2024

Dear Department of Geography and Environmental Science students, faculty, staff, alumni, and friends

I hope you all had a restful and enjoyable summer.

As your new Chair, I would like to warmly welcome both newcomers and returning members of our community for the 2024-25 academic year. I have much to learn about the department's workings, so I plan to spend my first semester listening to everyone's needs, thoughts, and visions on enhancing and promoting an inclusive and productive learning environment for geographers, environmental scientists, and GIS specialists.

We are planning several activities for the fall, including a majors event and tabling. As you may know, November features Geography Awareness Week, and we are eager to share our enthusiasm for geography with the larger Hunter community. Additionally, we anticipate exciting events associated with the Greenbelt Society.

Our staff and faculty are dedicated to helping students learn, grow, and thrive. Geography is increasingly relevant in these challenging times, and we look forward to seeing everyone in the freshly painted halls of the 10th floor of Hunter North.

Sincerely,
Peter J. Marcotullio
Professor and Chair
